Eugenia Di Girolamo ’23

Eugenia Di Girolamo is the first Chief Urban Designer for the City and County of Denver. She is a trained architect and urban designer, with expertise in planning policy, design review, resiliency, and community engagement.

Eugenia served as the Deputy Director for Urban Design at the New York City Department of City Planning where she led urban design research and policy development, neighborhood studies and developed rezoning proposals. She has extensive experience in the review of public and private land use proposals, urban design analysis and direct interaction with development teams through New York City’s standardized public review process. Eugenia also helped found the Civic Engagement Studio, a think tank to improve the Department’s outreach practices and enhance community involvement in planning processes in New York City.

Eugenia has been an instructor at Cornell University and a guest critic to Yale University, NJIT, Columbia University, Fordham University, University of Arizona and University of Colorado – Denver. She worked for the architecture and urban design firm WXY in New York City and was a member of the inaugural class of the Forefront Fellowship with the Urban Design Forum in 2016. Eugenia earned a dual master’s degree in architecture and building engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy.
